A Balancing Act
The use of Photoshop is both rewarding and challenging. Rewards are many. The slightly pointed head of a bald man can be rounded to perfection. An overweight person can lose multiple pounds via Layers. Skin can be purged from blemishes and made to glow. The eyes can certainly be enhanced with new expression and poignance.
Wanting to please each client, I am tempted to access all the possibilities of Photoshop. However, the challenge lies in balancing such options with reality. Do I want the client to look real, natural, and recognizable? With the use of pristine lighting, a photographer gains authentic images that need few changes. Thus I seek to make only the subtle alterations that complement the image without sacrificing its integrity.
Photo: This was a very recent session, with the new lighting mentioned in earlier content. These images come straight out of the camera needing minimal adjustment, with warm, smooth and soft skin tones.
